ABOUT
Per Sia is a first generation Trans Mexican-American, raised in South Central Los Angeles. Her drag origins hail from the historic 16th Street Queer Latine culture in San Francisco’s Mission District, where she had her first drag residency at the iconic Esta Noche. Per Sia’s artistic practice includes a trajectory in art curation, stand-up, television, acting, and authoring presented in cultural spaces in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and México.
Whether it be a local bar, or a fine art museum, Per Sia uses storytelling to build community by showcasing the commonalities of the human experience. Per Sia is the artist in residence at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, The Oakland Museum of California and the legendary El Rio, Your Local Dive Bar.
She is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, with a Bachelors in Art and a minor in Education. Blending her degree and passions for the arts and early childhood education, in 2015 she cofounded San Francisco’s “Drag Story Hour”, which became an internationally acclaimed program. Offstage, she is an educator at the Children’s After School Arts Program, where she champions creative open expression in youth development.
Her accolades have defined her as a cultural advocate and her remarkable story is featured on KQED Arts, National Public Radio, and CNN.
